Mary is a Licensed Massage Practitioner, practicing massage since 1996, and is also a Certified Yoga Teacher of the Viniyoga tradition. She offers table massage, Thai Yoga Massage, and one-on-one yoga instruction at Glow Natural Health Center. Her intention in providing therapeutic touch and yoga instruction is to work collaboratively with clients for the purposes of stimulating and enhancing the body's own natural healing mechanisms, bringing balance to each individual's unique body, and increasing people's awareness of their bodies.
My Approach
I trained in a variety of massage modalities and specialize in Thai Yoga Massage. This is a holistic, interactive massage modality that integrates stretching, breathing, movement, acupressure, compression along energy pathways, and manual manipulation of tissue. It is done on a mat on the floor to allow space and leverage for full stretches and movement. No oil or lotions are used and clients wear or bring along comfortable clothing to allow for movement and stretching without restriction. Suitable clothing includes: shorts, T-shirt, sweatpants, sweatshirt, sports bra or yoga clothing.
I came to Thai Yoga Massage after several years of practicing traditional massage on a table and observing that the static nature of table massage can be somewhat limiting. I believe that a more dynamic flow, incorporating movement and stretching, facilitates the body's natural healing process by lubricating joints and resetting muscle proprioceptors to lengthen, reducing scar tissue formation, decreasing pain, decreasing stress/anxiety, decreasing tension, improving circulation, promoting a sense of well-being, and increasing range of motion.
My experience with Thai Yoga Massage prompted me to train to become a Certified Yoga Teacher to deepen my understanding and practice of Thai Yoga Massage as well as to provide one-on-one therapeutic yoga instruction for people recovering from injuries/surgery and for people who live with chronic health conditions.
When I'm not practicing massage or yoga, I'm most likely spending time with my husband, son and friends, meditating, hiking, camping, reading or otherwise exploring the world.
